The ROOM LEADER/Early Years Educator will participate in the development, planning, and delivery of the daily operational running of the Early Years’ service, in line with the Childcare Act 1991 (Early Years Services) Regulations (2016) thus ensuring the Health Welfare and Development of the child is paramount at all times. They will work in accordance to the services policies & procedures and practices. They will be responsible for the ongoing professional development and supervision of staff within the Early Years. They will be responsible for ensuring that the room is appropriately prepared for a TUSLA preschool inspection at any stage and that any child protection concerns are reported to the Manager and to the statutory authorities (TUSLA & Garda). Partnership with other staff, parents, families & outside support agencies and professionals is expected.
The successful applicant will be required to work as part of a team and have:
- Minimum Level 6 in Early Childhood Care and Education is essential
- At least 18 months of experience in working in the Early Years is required
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team. You need to be a dynamic individual with plenty of initiative and drive and be committed to supporting the individual needs of the child.
- Level 7/8 in Early Childhood Care and Education is desirable
- Experience in a Leadership role within the early year’s sector is desirable
- Current First Aid certification
- Children First/Child Protection certification
- Thorough knowledge of current government policy, national childcare funding programmes and Tusla childcare regulations
- Experience in identifying quality practice in the early year’s sector and supporting practice through current legislation, Aistear, Siolta and good practice guidelines
- An understanding of the regulatory framework that services must operate within and the quality frameworks that services are now expected to meet
- Have excellent organisational skills and an ability to undertake work requiring accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent IT and administrative abilities, including experience in report writing, use of Microsoft Word, Excel & Access Data etc.
- Have proficient administrative ability, including experience in report writing
- Excellent organisational and presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal communications skills and an ability to work closely with a broad range of stakeholders including, service providers, educators, statutory and voluntary bodies
- Good command of English (i.e. grammar, spelling and sentence construction)
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team with flexibility to ongoing change in work practices
- Confidentiality and a good team player
- You need to be a dynamic individual with plenty of initiative and drive and open to change
- Satisfactory references and Garda Vetting will be required prior to employment
Contract: ECCE contract (with flexibility for additional hours if required)
Salary: Above current ERO
Annual Leave: 21 days per annum plus 3 Additional Company Allocated Leave Days, on a pro-rata basis

The Early Years Educator will assist in the planning and implementation of an age appropriate stimulating programme of activities underpinned by Aistear and Síolta and the teachings of a play-based curriculum. They will guide, observe, stimulate and supervise children in a safe and caring environment as part of the team, will work in close co-operation with the Manager and the other team members, will act, if required as a key worker to specified children, and ensure the safety, security and well-being of all children in thrie care.
The successful applicant will be required to work as part of a team and have:
- Minimum Level 5 in Early Childhood Care and Education is essential
- Minimum 1 years’ experience in Childcare setting is desirable but not essential
- Competent in consideration of the needs of children
- Good Communication and relating to skills with children, staff and parents
- Up to date knowledge of legislation and regulations
- Updated Children’s first safeguarding regulations and reporting procedures
- Satisfactory references and Garda vetting will be required prior to employment
Salary: €14 per hour, with increase to €15 per hour following successful completion of probationary period
Annual Leave: 21 days per annum plus 3 Additional Company Allocated Leave Days, on a pro-rata basis

The Rural Social Scheme (RSS) is aimed at low-income farmers and fishermen/women.
The Rural Social Scheme in Roscommon deliver a much-needed community service throughout the County. This is demonstrated by the community groups that seek assistance to carry out worthwhile projects year after year. Roscommon LEADER Partnerships RSS team of 150 participants and 7 Supervisors provide support to a number of local community organisations in a range of areas throughout the county.
Participants on the RSS work 19.5 hours per week and the scheme is administered in a farmer/fisherperson friendly manner to ensure participation on the scheme does not affect your farming/fishing activities.
To QUALIFY for the RSS you must be getting a social welfare payment. In return, people participating in the RSS provide services that benefit rural communities. For example:
- Maintaining and enhancing various walking routes
- Energy conservation work for older people and those at risk of poverty
- Village and countryside enhancement projects
- Social care and care of older people
- Community care for pre-school and after-school groups
- Environmental maintenance work
- Projects relating to not-for-profit cultural and heritage centres
- Community administration or clerical work
- Any other appropriate community based project identified during the scheme
Qualifying Family Members:
A child/sibling of a herd number owner can apply as long as they can certify that they are resident and/or working on the farm and they are in receipt of one of the qualifying social welfare payments.
If a farmer is eligible but do not wish to participate on the RSS, their dependent spouse, civil partner or cohabitant can take the available place.
Alternatively, if their spouse, civil partner or cohabitant is getting one of the qualifying social welfare payments and is actively farming, they can use your herd number to qualify for the scheme.
Income benefits for Participants:
The RSS generates additional benefits in terms of the future income security as it allows participants to make a PRSI contribution giving them possible entitlements for welfare payments in the future, including state pensions.
You are not liable for the Universal Social Charge (USC) on your RSS payment.

To be eligible to participate, an individual must be in receipt of one of the following payments from DSP:
- Farm Assist/Fish Assist

- Disability Allowance
- One Parent/Widowers Payment
- Adult dependents of non-contributory old age pensioners under 66 years of age etc.
Applicants must also have access to an active herd number and farming at least 1 hectare of land in the state. To prove this they must provide a copy of the application for their Basic Income Support for Sustainability Scheme (BISS) for the current year. If an applicant is actively farming and has not applied for the Basic Income Support for Sustainability Scheme (BISS), they should contact us for advice.
