Aims of the Programme
The aim of the project is to train and support people with disabilities to complete certified and non-certified training that will increase their employment prospects, support them into work placements, and enable them to secure jobs. The project will work with employers to empower and upskill them to provide employment to people with disabilities through provision of information, HR support and training for their existing employees.Work Links Programme
Roscommon LEADER Partnership, under the Work Links Roscommon (WLR) project,have identified a huge opportunity for businesses in hiring people with a disability.
We understand that it might be daunting for employers to engage people with a
disability but with our offer of support through information, HR support, training for their
existing employees and access to Easy Read documentation, these daunting doubts
can be alleviated.
The aim of the project is to train and support people with disabilities to complete
training, certified and non-certified, which increases their employment prospects,
support them into work placements, and enable them to secure jobs. The project will
work with employers to empower and upskill them to employ people with disabilities
through provision of information, HR supports and training for their employees. This
will all be done in partnership with the key stakeholders in County Roscommon.
The Pobal application was made as a partnership of RLP, GRETB, Brothers of Charity
Roscommon, HSE, Athlone Institute of Technology, DSP and EmployAbility
Roscommon. This is based on the existing partnership which has collaborated for over
3 years on the successful Ability Programme and indeed prior to this many of the
partners were involved in the DAF funded Ability Focus Project
The scope of this project will include the entire of County Roscommon, ranging from
Rural Areas in Arigna to more urbanised areas such as Monksland and to include the
larger towns of Castlerea, Boyle, Roscommon, Ballaghaderreen and Strokestown. It
will also cater for individuals who live in the rural outside of the main towns.

To date we have 55 applicants to the project.
Many of the participants have already completed a Zoom Healthy Eating Made Easy
course.
27 participants have participated in a QQI level 3 course in Work Experience. A twoweek, (30 hour work) placement was required for this course.

Many of the participants are looking to convert this Work Placement into paid jobs
and are updating their CVs!
HR Support to our employers is ongoing with the first HR item being addressed by
HR Specialists – Contracts of Employment and Related Matters.
An Easy Read consultant has been selected and documents to be converted into the
Easy Read format are being assembled.
We have completed 1 Disability Awareness training session (Thank you Kilmovee for
hosting us) with a few more planned in the near future. We have connected with the
Disability Federation of Ireland and we plan to deliver the Disability Awareness
training together.
Plans for our “Make Way Day” 2022 are in full swing and we plan to launch the
initiative on 7
th of September.
We are looking forward to continuing the great work already achieved and get a few
more jobs for our participants
